Templeton Common Historic District

Templeton Common Historical District is a historic district in Templeton located on Athol, Gardner, Hubbardston, Dudley, Wellington and South Roads. For its historic significance and architecture the district has been listed in the National Historic Register in 1983.

Templeton Common Historic District comprises of Templeton's historic industrial area which played an important role in town's history and had great impact on present Templeton's shape. Besides industrial area are part of Templeton Common Historic District also Brook's Tavern, Boynton Public Library, Country Store, Grange, First Parish Church, First Trinitarian Congregational Church, Church Parsonage, Cemetery, Hotel Templeton Inn, Bourne House, Former Post Office, Fire Station, the Narragansett Historical Society Building and other individual homes, civic and business building although some of them do not exists any more.

Fortunately many of the Templeton's outstanding buildings from the 18th, 19th and 20th century remained preserved thanks to efforts made by Narragansett Historic Society and other civic groups. Templeton today is a museum of 18th, 19th and 20th century landscape museum covering the entire history and architecture from the time of the first settlers in Templeton in the middle of the 18th century until the present days. Besides the remaining well-preserved civic, religious and business buildings, individual houses, war monuments and agricultural landscape from the middle of the 18th century to the 20th century, the collection of glass-plate negatives owned by Brian Tanguay and images of the Narragansett Historical Society also provide a great insight and source of the building which are no longer extant such as Templeton Inn and Brooks Tavern.
